Hello, my name is Omar Haddad.
I'd like to join the table tennis class.1 I want to try it because my friends play and it looks fun. I'm a beginner, but I play a little at school.2
I'm free on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 5 pm, and on Saturday mornings.
Thank you. Omar
- "I'd like to" is polite and clear.
- Honest information helps the club put you in the right class.
Teacher notes
Forms are real writing: many learners will fill in forms in English before anything else. Practise capital letters for days and months.
Extra: Create a full form on the board (name, date of birth, phone, emergency contact) and practise dates: 15th March 2013.
Extra challenge
The club writes back: the class is full on Tuesdays. Write a reply asking for another day.
Lesson plan
- 5 minWarm-up
Show the situation on the classroom screen and ask: “What would you write in this situation?” Take two or three quick answers.

- 15 minWriting
Start the timer. Students write their own text; anyone stuck can use the plan in the toolkit. (30-50 words)
- 5 minPeer review
Students swap texts and fill in the peer-review sheet.
- 2 minWrap-up
Set the extra challenge as homework.
